I want you to know exactly how this site makes money, and what that does — and doesn’t — change about what I write.
Affiliate links
Some articles contain affiliate links. If you sign up for a service through one of them, I may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it doesn’t change the price you pay.
Where an article contains affiliate links, it says so at the top of that article.
What I will and won’t do
- I only link to services I would be comfortable recommending to a friend moving to Japan.
- I don’t accept payment to say something is good. A commission never buys a positive opinion.
- If a service has drawbacks, I say so in the same article that links to it.
- If I haven’t used something myself, I say that too.
If you ever see something here that reads like an advert dressed up as advice, tell me: [email protected]. I’d rather fix it than keep the commission.
Sponsored content
If I ever publish sponsored content — an article a company has paid for — it will be clearly labelled as sponsored at the top. I have not published any so far.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics and Google Search Console to see which articles people read and which searches bring them here. This tells me what to write next. I don’t sell data, and I don’t run tracking advertising networks.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, I use your email address only to send the newsletter, roughly once every two weeks. I don’t sell or share the list. You can unsubscribe from any email, and the link is in every one.
Not professional advice
I’m an engineer, not a lawyer, an immigration specialist, a tax accountant or a recruiter. Everything here is general information based on public sources and my own experience in the Japanese tech industry. For your own situation, talk to your employer, a licensed gyoseishoshi (行政書士) for immigration matters, or the relevant Japanese authority.
